Each of the DBX files that hold the individual folders for Outlook Express has a file size limit of 2 GB. If the Sent Items file has reached 2 GB or greater, then emails, depending on the size, can’t be added to the DBX file.
1 - PERMANENTLY delete all emails in the Sent Items folder by selecting all of them and pressing Shift + Delete.

    Or

2 - Move the Sent Items.dbx from the Hidden Outlook Express folder. The Outlook Express folder is located at – C:\Documents and Settings\(Username)\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\(Account Identifier)\Microsoft\Outlook Express.

  2. Outlook 2003 and above - Outlook opens and then closes immediately.

    1. Click on Start and select Run
    2. In the box type: OUTLOOK.EXE /resetnavpane and press Enter

  3. Why are Images are blocked when you open an e-mail message in Outlook and/or Outlook Express?

This behavior occurs because of the Block images and other external content in HTML e-mail security option. By default, this option is turned on in Outlook Express after you install Windows XP SP2.

By default, Outlook Express blocks all HTML content that is referenced by an external location. Many spam senders include an image URL in their e-mail messages. The image URL notifies the spam sender's Web server when you open or preview the message. This kind of image URL is also known as a Web beacon.
The following is a sample Web beacon:
    "img src=http://myserver/cgi-bin/program?e=your-e-mail-address-here"
If you preview or open an e-mail message that contains this kind of an image reference, you may make your computer a target for more spam.

To prevent this kind of Web beacon, where an HTML e-mail message contains references such as links and banners to an external URL, the Outlook Express HTML viewer does not automatically render the external content. Instead, when you open the e-mail message, the areas in the message that typically contain embedded images instead display a red X placeholder.

To download external content for an individual e-mail message so that you can view the blocked images, click the embedded hyperlink in the following text, just above the content window in the e-mail message: "Some pictures have been blocked to help prevent the sender from identifying your computer. Click here to download pictures."

NOTE: You can manually turn off the Block images and other external content in HTML e-mail option. This is a security feature that has been included in Windows XP SP2 to protect your computer against junk e-mail (spam). We recommend that you do not turn off this option.

  4. How do I import my email and addresses into Outlook Express?

You can easily import items from other programs, like other mail clients and address book data, into Microsoft Outlook® Express.

    Import Address Books:
You can import address book contacts from other Microsoft Windows® Address Book files (.wab), as well as from Netscape Communicator, Microsoft Exchange Personal Address Book, or any text (.csv) file.

    For Windows Address Book:

    1. On the File menu, point to Import, and then click Address Book.
    2. Select the address book or file type you want to import, and then click Open.

For All Other Address Book Formats:

    1. On the File menu, point to Import, and then click Other Address Book.
    2. Click the address book or file type you want to import, and then click Open.

If your address book is not listed, you can export it to either a text (.csv) file or a Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) or Lightweight Directory Interchange Format (LDIF) file, and then import it using that file type.

Import Messages from Other E-Mail Programs:
Using the Outlook Express Import Wizard, you can easily import e-mail messages from a variety of popular Internet e-mail programs, such as Netscape Communicator and Eudora, as well as from Exchange Server and Outlook.

    1. On the File menu, point to Import, and then click Messages.
    2. Select the e-mail program you want to import messages from, and then click Next.

  7. Internet shortcuts in Outlook and/or Outlook Express do not start Web browser.

    1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.

    2. Double-click the Internet or Internet Options icon, and then click Programs.

    3. Make sure that the Internet Explorer should check to see if it is the default check box is selected, click Apply, and then click OK.

Links in e-mail messages should then open Internet Explorer.
